Happy New Year from the Mana Chapter of CFPT

2014 was a busy year for us with an increase in volunteers (Barney, Benny, Bosun, Callum, Diesel, Harry, Morgan, Poppy, Teddy, Yoda and Zena) and facilities to visit (Summerset and Emmerson). It also saw a sad farewell to Bailee and Zena due to work and travel commitments. Farwell our furry friends, we look forward to seeing you again sometime in the future.

The festive season began in mid November with our end of year party at Club Fido. Everyone enjoyed themselves with Diesel and Poppy showing off their aquatic skills.

December 2014 included some promotional events. The first was the Bunnings children’s Christmas function held at the Aotea Lagoon on a very chilly Saturday night. A Bunnings stamp entitled us to a free ice cream and a ride on the Lagoon train. Despite the chill we all enjoyed our ice creams (dogs included) but passed on the train ride. The BBQ definitely smelled nice.

Morgan, Yoda and Madison showed Santa that he didn’t need to wait for Rudoph, Blitzen and Dancer to pull his sleigh however Santa decided to opt for his RAV4 for a trip home for a hot cup of tea. Our second event was a community event at Bunnings where Morgan, Yoda, Poppy, Harry, Bosco and Madison were joined by Jax, Tawnee and Utah from Upper Hutt chapter. It was great to meet other members and the children enjoyed patting the dogs in between the other activities provided. For the record Morgan loves Poppy!

Our last promotional event for the year was the Special Olympics Christmas function held at Cannons Creek pool. Jax, Tawnee and Madison thought they were in doggy heaven, a swimming pool AND and a BBQ what more could a dog want? Thankfully nobody ended up overboard and the dogs helped out when sausages were “accidently” dropped on the ground. So what does 2015 hold? Hopefully lots more volunteers. With the extensions to Whitby Rest Home we will all be using Supernan’s motorised chair to get around. We have now also added abi Rehabilitation to our facilities to visit. Poppy and Yoda will be the CFPT flag bearers at this new facility. We are looking forward to celebrating CFPT’s 25th Anniversary in a suitably appropriate style.

This contribution is from Jean Barr from the Mana Chapter and as you can see they were extremely social prior to Christmas 2014.
