Fun Day Out in Petone
On Sunday 8th November, Canine Friends from Greater Wellington had a get together on the dog-friendly side of the Petone foreshore. There were around 25 dogs that turned up with their volunteers on a lovely Wellington afternoon. Amid barking, laughter and hollering dogs, all the families had lots of fun. Then President Annette called for a group photograph and the dogs were called into heel. Scarves were produced and everyone sat to attention – yeah right!
How do you convince a number of very excited canines that a family picture is more important than getting back in the water?
Formalities completed it was back to playtime. Children threw balls and sticks for the dogs to fetch whilst some intrepid white baiters tried to catch the night’s supper amongst all the frenzy.
After about an hour it was then decided to take a walk along the beach up to the pier. Canine Friends intermingled with dogs of the public, chased balls and put on a great show for many interested onlookers who were keen to know who we were and what we were about.
Soon it was time to pack dogs into cars and head home for a well deserved snooze and a bath. It was a universal paws up for a great day out and something that we are keen to repeat again in the near future.
